Emotional eating doesn’t heals emotional issues
Although it may feel good in the moment to indulge in your favourite “comfort” food , you are setting yourself up for a lot more pain by going for the quick and easy. Solution of emotional eating.
Much like alcohol or other drugs, food is often used by many of us as a mean to distract ourselves from the real issues in our lives .
Unfortunately,that temporary relief often translates to a compounding of our problems because not only is the underlying reason still there, but now you have also fallen off track from your goals !
Each time you break a promise to yourself , you chip away at your own self esteem and confidence . If you “failed” at sticking with your plan , you will have to work that much harder to get back to the place where you believed in yourself, not only are you back to square one , you’re back to square minus one.
So what’s the solution?
Rather than emotional eating , consider other self care rituals that make you feel good . Put on some music , call a friend, take a few deep breaths. Perhaps go for a nice hot bath or a massage , pedicure ,manicure . Hit the workout class.
Once you feel better , it’s time to tackle the root cause . Try to sit with the problem and find a new perspective that will help you solve it, rather than cope within self destructive ways.
